The Minisink is that geographic region of the Upper Delaware River Valley that reaches for 40 miles on both sides of the river from Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, to Port Jervis, New York.... Its name derives from the Minsi, a branch of the Lenni Lenape Indians. Many means have been given to the designation, Minisink, but the most common is "where the waters have gone," an observation of the shrewd Indian that a vast ocean-lake had covered all the area before their time....
